The cause of depression I want to focus on is disconnection from meaningful work. I believe this cause is the most prevalent in society and so it’s the one that I can closely relate to. Hari argues that because nothing meaningful or “real” appears to be happening at work or home then depression can occur. Personally I believe this to be true because when I do something that ends up being meaningless then I feel like I’ve just wasted my time. One of the solutions Hari finds is being part of a democratic cooperative which allows workers to input their own opinions and ideas which makes them feel like their work is significant. Key terms that could be used are cooperative, democratic, community, group, coalition, opinionated, idealistic, forward-thinking, meaningful, and dedicated.
