Pinker on Happiness

In the article “Happiness” by Steven Pinker, the author explains the various reasons why people are happy. Some reasons range on the belief that physical well being is a main reason on why people can be happy. Other ideas offer up the belief that most people aren’t as happy as they should be because they have grown use to the socio-economic changes that have occurred over the years. In summation I agree with Pinker that we humans have aren’t the happiest because we mostly know what life has in store for us and that a variety of factors such as health or wealth can shape your outlook on how happy you will be as person and how happy your life can be.

In light of the class argument I found that Pinker thinks that we have no reason to be unhappy. He says that world if is a far safer and better place than it was in past generations. He also makes the point that the U.S. being a wealth nation is happier because the money it and it’s citizens generate take care of basic biological needs. These need he argues are where we get our happiness from depending if they are being met or not.
